Spermidine
a splendid fountain of youth
We owe the 1970s not only punk, flared trousers, and Saturday Night Fever, but also the discovery of spermidine. A biological polyamine (a certain compound of amino acids), which can be found in cells through all stages of evolution. No matter if bacteria, mice, or men, there is no cell in the world, which does not contain this natural polyamine.
Apropos man: Here, the highest concentration of spermidine was found. Actually, in male seminal fluid. This and the fact that it was first discovered in sperm is the reason for the name of this polyamine.
For a long time, scientists thought that spermidine contributed only to the generation of sperms. Until in 2009 the Austrian scientists Frank Madeo and Tobias Eisenberg entered stage. They made a groundbreaking discovery and were able to prove in a study at the university of Graz that Spermidine slows cell ageing. Wow! This was an uproar in the scientific world!
Sperms do not only bring life, but they also prolong it―exactly: the spermidine does it. By now, there are, believe it or not, 13,440 studies that underline the immense potential of spermidine. These research results are so meaningful that this natural substance is called a “miracle” against ageing.
How is this possible? The renewing effect of spermidine is primarily based on its ability to stimulate the so-called autophagy. This is a complex endogenous self-cleaning process, which breaks down the molecular waste inside the cells. In this regard it is important to know that a lot of waste comes up in our roughly 100 trillion body cells every day. It is obvious that where there is a lot of work and production, also a lot of waste comes up. This is no different in our cells.
Every day, defective cell components, damaged and pathogenic proteins, toxic substances, etc. pile up. Our endogenous waste removal, autophagy, cares for the disposal of all this waste. Only this enables our cells to continue their duty seamlessly. Without autophagy, a normal function of the cells would be impossible. Our cells would be like overfilled and clogged waste bins.
This is the reason why spermidine is present in the whole human body. It is estimated that roughly a third of the spermidine content, which is required for autophagy, is created by the body cells on their own. Additionally, spermidine is produced by certain intestinal bacteria. In total, our body produces approximately 50 % of the spermidine content, which is required for self-cleaning purposes.
The other half must be supplied regularly with our diet. Certain food items, like legumes (peas and soja), many vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower), wholegrain products, apples, pears, grapefruit, salad, mushrooms, seeds, nuts, and potatoes contain spermidine. But the king of the spermidine supplies is the wheat sprout. Wheat sprouts contain more spermidine than any other food item and are the unchallenged number one when it comes to the spermidine content in food items.
This is important to know, because starting with 30 years, the endogenous spermidine production reduces continuously. This makes autophagy, our endogenous waste removal, lose efficiency and speed. The result: Waste piles up and forms deposits in the cells, which may lead to dementia, diabetes, tumors, and arteriosclerosis.
To bring autophagy up to speed again, it is advisable to consume more food items with lots of spermidine. This sends a signal to the cells to re-start the self-cleaning process and protects from deposits, premature ageing, and diseases.
Animal studies, for example, proved that spermidine can have a renewing effect on the heart. By adding spermidine, the elasticity of the heart and the diastolic relaxation of the left ventricle increased while the thickening of the heart walls decreased. This means that the heart muscle was able to relax more easily between the beats and could fill up with more blood. Stiffness of the heart muscle and the thickening of the left ventricle are often associated with age and increase the risk of a heart malfunction.
Spermidine also has valuable effects against so-called neuro-degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson. This is confirmed, amongst others, by neuroscientists of the Charité in Berlin. In the scope of the “SmartAge” study, elderly people were given capsules with spermidine from wheat sprouts for three months. An increased cognitive capacity was noted.
The reason is plausible, because over time, molecular and cellular waste (primarily malformed proteins) deposits in the brain cells. This cellular waste can cause Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson when the efficiency of the autophagy is reduced. As spermidine re-enables the self-cleaning process, these diseases can be countered.
You see how versatile the positive effects of spermidine are. Even regarding Corona, there are initial results concerning spermidine. A team around Prof. Dr. Christian Drosten from the Charité in Berlin could prove with several experiments that the Corona virus slows down autophagy in infected cells to reproduce itself without interruption. When the scientists added spermidine to the infected cells, the reproduction of the viruses could be reduced by 85 %. The scientists derived this sensational result from the fact, that spermidine activates the autophagy, the self-cleaning process, and thus clears the cells from viruses.
These three examples show, how important a diet with enough spermidine is. And there are many more. In higher age, this polyamine has a sensational positive effect on the whole body. This is confirmed by a large international team of scientists. In the scope of the K project VASCage from Tyrol, the scientists were able to determine that a diet with enough spermidine increases the healthy life span. The scientists observed 829 test persons over 20 years, who had a diet rich in spermidine. The result: The test persons had a significantly lower risk of premature death. The exact opposite is true. An extension of the life span of up to 5 years could be measured.
To profit from the phenomenal effects, it is necessary to consume a large quantity of food items containing spermidine. Nutritionists recommend 12 mg spermidine per day. This equals 133 grams of mushrooms―every day. This is quite a lot.
Therefore, scientists recommend an additional intake of spermidine with nutritional supplements. This gives more control over the amount consumed. As spermidine is a natural substance without side effects, it can be consumed as capsules additionally without hesitation.
Our product “Spermidine” supports this specific nutrition in a unique way due to its high dosage! While other products on the market contain only 1 mg of spermidine on average, our intake recommendation gives you a boasting additional supply of 2.5 mg spermidine! This supplies your body with concentrated spermidine. An absolute novelty on the market!
Our spermidine is obtained from pure and natural wheat sprout extract, the spermidine champion amongst all food items. With a special extraction process, it is extracted gently to unfold its full potential in the organism.
Additionally, our product contains green tea and maqui berries. Both plants are said to have a strong antioxidative effect, which is important to support cell renewal.
Long story short: Spermidine keeps us young and fresh because it is an anti-ageing program for the whole organism. This polyamine’s incredible effect can not only be felt, but also seen, because it slows the ageing of the skin. Spermidine smoothens the skin 30 times stronger than for example products with vitamin E.
Advice: The recommended daily intake must not be exceeded.
